Prevents tooth decay

Green tea kills streptococcus mutans, the bacteria that cause tooth decay. In a triple-blind study in which a comparison was made between participants who used either a green tea or probiotic mouth rinse, green tea had a greater antibacterial effect.

Enhances gum health

Green tea has anti-inflammatory properties that may help control gum disease.  A study in Japan found for each cup of green tea consumed on a daily basis, participants had better indicators of gum health based on three indicators: periodontal pocket depth, loss of gum tissue, and bleeding of gums.

Slows the progression of oral cancer

Studies have found the antioxidants and other properties of green tea may slow the progression of oral cancer. The properties of green tea have been shown to protect against tumor growth.

May prevent tooth decay

Again, in Japan, a study found that regular consumption of green tea may prevent tooth loss. This is because the men and women in Japan who drank at least one cup of green tea daily have more of their natural teeth compared to those who didn’t.

Protects against bad breath

The antibacterial effects of green tea reduce microbes in the mouth that cause bad breath. Researchers compared the levels of “smelly compounds” in the mouths of participants who consumed green tea powder and those who used breath mints, and found green tea produced superior results.
